39 engines. Familiar controls.
24 engines from Classic Plaits, plus 15 developed by Våld Labs. Move between synthesis types through the same macro controls.
Multi-engine synthesizer v1.3.1
Sound and sequence in one instrument. Build analogue basses, FM keys, resonant strings, granular textures and percussion. Give each layer its own evolving pattern.

The instrument
Two independent layers of eight voices each. Choose an engine for each layer, shape the sound, then build the musical idea with sequencing and modulation.
24 engines from Classic Plaits, plus 15 developed by Våld Labs. Move between synthesis types through the same macro controls.
The built-in VEKTE sequencer offers seven algorithms, scale and chord controls, probability, swing and humanisation. Patterns are deterministic, so a saved patch brings back the same sequence.
Wave interference · Euclidean · Random walk · Logistic map · Cellular automata · Kaprekar · Fibonacci
Three LFOs and two generative MOD lanes add vibrato, filter movement and shifting timbres, from a steady pulse to less predictable motion.
Sound shaping
Filtering, envelopes, modulation and stereo shaping take a patch from its first tone to a finished sound.
Move continuously between low-pass, band-pass, notch and high-pass. Soften a bright patch, bring out its harmonics or push the resonance.
Shape volume and filter movement separately. Sharp attacks for percussion and plucks; slow builds and long fades for evolving textures.
Eight voices per layer, with detune and stereo spread. Keep the result focused or open it into a broad, drifting texture.
Add harmonics after the filter. Bring bite to a clean tone with wavefolding, crush and distortion, or add depth with chorus.
The synthesis core runs internally at 48 kHz, with sample-rate conversion to match your DAW session.
Your settings stay with your DAW project. Use RANDOM to generate a new patch across the engines, then follow what catches your ear.
The engine collection
All 39 engines are included in the desktop instrument. Explore them by synthesis family.
Classic Plaits engines + Våld Labs engines
Saw and square waves through an analogue-modelled resonant low-pass filter.
NES-style pulse, triangle and noise generators with an arpeggiator. TIM controls the arpeggio speed and chord range.
Two detuned, morphing saw/square oscillators with stereo spread.
Eight mathematical formulae for raw, crunchy and generative chiptune sounds.
Seven band-limited saw waves with per-voice detune for stacked leads and chords.
Casio-style phase distortion. Changes the phase of a cosine wave to create resonant timbres.
First bank of six-operator FM patches, from electric pianos to bass.
Second bank of six-operator FM patches, including bells and chimes.
Third bank of six-operator FM patches, including brass and pads.
Feedback phase modulation, from smooth woodwinds to strong FM textures.
Vowel formants and spoken words, with control over intonation.
Expanded phase distortion with complex wave shapes and harmonic control.
A five-position vocal resonator. MOR moves between vowel sounds.
Two-operator FM with continuous modulator-to-carrier feedback.
Multi-wave FM with ratios from 0.5 to 8.0, index modulation and carrier/modulator wave shaping.
A two-dimensional wave-terrain scanner for evolving timbres.
Waveshaping and wavefolding add harmonics and metallic character.
Harmonic sine partials, from pure tones to organ-like sounds.
Scanning through single-cycle wavetables for changing synthetic textures.
Band-limited pulse and saw oscillators through a multi-stage wavefolder.
Drawbar organ with cabinet tilt EQ and overdrive.
Frequency modulation, phase warping and wavefolding in one oscillator.
A vintage-style string ensemble with stereo chorus.
Detuned saw waves in a granular cloud.
Up to four-note chords from one note. HAR selects chord shapes and TIM selects scales.
Eight oscillators with sweepable micro-detuning.
Short noise grains for dust, clicks and irregular micro-rhythms.
Pitched granular noise for crackle, rain and textured soundscapes.
Inharmonic resonances inspired by metal bars, glass tubes and ceramic blocks.
A modal resonator for struck plates, marimbas and bells, responsive to velocity.
Karplus–Strong plucked-string modelling with a filtered feedback loop.
A modal resonator for wooden bars, metal rods and bowed plates. Long releases reveal evolving overtones.
Three coupled strings with sympathetic resonance.
Four feedback-tuned delay lines for plucked and hollow resonant sounds.
Noise through multimode resonant filters, with random pitch movement.
Analogue-style kick with pitch sweep and drive. Short decay gives a tight hit.
Analogue-style snare combining a resonant body and filtered noise.
Metallic, multi-oscillator hi-hats with exponential decay.
Digital percussion combining a fast pitch sweep and filtered noise.

Hardware / In development
Tresse began as a standalone hardware instrument built in Lisbon. The plugin carries that idea into your DAW, with two independent layers, generative sequencing and more room to explore.
The hardware is being developed alongside the software. Target release: Q1 2027.
A compact box with physical controls, built around a custom PCB and an ESP32-S3 processor.
From the beta
From the public iOS and desktop beta threads.
“The more I play with this, the more I love it. Great balance between simplicity and complexity. Has the spirit of the Mutable Instruments approach but re-imagined.”
“Really cohesive and intuitive all round, I was able to understand it without the manual. The sequencer is fantastic.”
“This is inspiring to play with. You’re doing something good here. This is the first iOS synth I enjoy playing standalone and don’t feel the urge to use a host sequencer.”
“This may be one of the finest Plaits implementations out there, with lots of custom engines. Very intuitive and simple on the surface yet deep and powerful.”
“A great app with a lot of potential. I’ve been looking for a synth with a good touchscreen UI, lots of engines and easy randomisation. This ticks all those boxes.”
